Swimming Lessons

Kids from 5 to 14 can progress through six stages of classes as they learn to swim, work to refine strokes, and advance their water skills.

The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley provides high-quality swimming lessons in 7-week sessions throughout the entire year.  We provide 7 weeks of lessons with an eighth week reserved for any make-up lessons and registration period.

Our swim lesson instructors are thoroughly trained for safety and quality instruction to overall teach your children to be safe around water and reduce the risk of childhood drownings.

Upcoming Swim Lesson Sessions

Our Classes
This is a beginner Parent/Child Swim class for ages 6 months - 3 years. Parents and children play games that introduce basic introductory water skills such as blowing bubbles, breath control, kicking and floating.

The YMCA Staff are here to help you ensure your child is safely placed in the appropriate class. If your child is a true beginner, they will be automatically placed in the beginner class for their age group. If they have participated in swimming lessons before- either at our YMCA, another facility or swimming with your family, we will conduct a swim test. This swim test will be conducted by our trained aquatics staff and tests for essential skillsets.

Your child will either need to complete a YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley swim lesson and receive their report card that includes their recommended swim class for registration, or complete a swim test prior to registration.
Swim tests are scheduled in both Rome and Oneida at the end of each swim session. Please call our branches for upcoming swim test dates.
We currently do not offer registration for swim lessons online. You must register for lessons in-person along with your child's report card and/or swim test results. This is for the safety of all of our participants registered and to ensure they are appropriately placed in the correct classes for their swimming ability.
