Youth Development Summer 2015 Program Guide

Summer Dance Clinic- Begins June 22nd!

Discover your inner dancer!  The Rome Family Y is offering a Summer Dance Clinic for boys and girls ages 4-10.  Dance provides a positive experience for children.  Not only is dancing fun, but it increases your child's flexibility, range of motion, physical strength and stamina. The class focuses on beginners who are looking to build self-esteem and try out their passion. Register online or at the Rome Family Y by Friday, June 19th to avoid a $10 late fee. 

Mondays and Wednesdays, June 22nd - July 8th

Ages 4-6:  6:15pm - 7:00pm Ages 7-10:  7:15pm - 8:00pm

Boys & Girls Basketball Skills, Drills, Speed & Conditioning Clinic- Begins June 29th!

Want an edge on your competition?  This clinic will focus on guard and ball handling skills, post moves for the forwards and centers, defensive work, shooting, along with Plyometric, speed and condition for the appropriate age groups.  Our focus isn't on playing games; it's on getting you physically and mentally ready to play the game. Register online or the Rome Family Y by Friday, June 26th to avoid a $10 late fee.

Monday-Friday: June 29th - July 3rd

Grades 3-6:  11:00am - 12:15pm Grades 7-10:  12;30pm - 1:45pm

Summer Tumbling Clinic- Begins July 13th!

Your kids will flip for this!  This class is designed for boys and girls ages 4-10 who are at the beginner level.  It's great for parents who want their kids to gain confidence and build their self-esteem.  Tumbling uses every muscle in the body and is a great way to develop strength.  Register online or at the Rome Family by Friday, July 10th to avoid a $10 late fee.

Mondays and Wednesdays. July 13th - July 29th

Ages 4-6:  5:30pm - 6:15pm Ages 7-10:  6:15pm - 7;00pm

Interactive Game Room

Open Mon-Thurs 5-8pm for ages 5-12. An exciting room featuring a sports wall, Dance Dance Revolution and a big screen TV with a Nintendo Wii. A great blend of fun and exercise! Parents, drop your kids off to exercise while you do your workout. Free!

Adult Boxing Program

The Adult Boxing program is open to adults ages 18+. It runs after school Monday thru Thursday and is held 7:00pm-8:30pm. The program is held at Strough, but you must signup at the Rome YMCA. This program starts up in October and ends with the school year. Cost is $20/month for members and $40/month for non-members.

YMCA Youth Boxing Program
Boxing Training Program for Youth ages 10-18 years old, open to boys and girls. Learn the basics of boxing including stance, footwork, combos and how to train. Held at Strough Middle School boxing gymnasium in partnership with the Rome City School District.  The 2014-2015 program begins on October 15th.

Gym & Swim

A ninety minute phys ed program for home schooled children ages 5-16. Includes instructed gym class and structured swim. Runs along the school year for 8 week sessions. Join an existing class or start a new one with your own group. Sessions start back up in January and March. After the March session this program will resume again in September.
Members $30 / Non-Members $60

2015 Teen Outdoor Summer Volleyball- Starts Thursday, June 18th

The Oneida Family Y is hosting an outdoor summer Teen Volleyball League Thursdays for youth ages 13-18.  Team composition consists of 4 players at a time with no gender restrictions.  Team may be co-ed or all male or female teams.  This league is designed to promote a competitive environment and to develop and refine more advanced volleyball skills.

This is a 10 week league.  There will be 2 additional weeks of playoffs, all team will make playoffs.  

Thursdays, June 18th-August 20th    5:30pm, 6:30pm, & 7:30pm games    Cost is $100 per team

Hula Hoop Dance Class- Thursdays at 7:00pm Beginning June 11th

Interested in a creative collage of fitness, self-expression, laughter and dance?  Join Kristen for an 8 week beginners hula hoop dance class for ages 13 and up.  This class is designed to introduce hoop dance and will cover basic hoop moves and skills.   Each class will build week to week learning cardio hooping, waist hooping, hand hooping, and beginner techniques and strategies.

Please register by Monday, June 8th to join this class.

Y Achievers- Fridays - 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Join us for an “outside of the box” small group tutoring program that will expand your child’s skill levels in both Math and ELA as well as provide a fun, hands-on approach to learning. Instruction is based on the NYS Common Core academic standards and is designed to assist with homework difficulty and advance your child’s understanding of troublesome subject areas. Twice the fun and half the cost of a private tutor!! Lead by a NYS Certified Educator with a maximum of 5 participants per tutor.

Members $15 per session; Non-Members $20 per session

Family Zumba®- Sundays 10:05am- Beginning March 1st

Families are able to come enjoy all the benefits of Zumba® together in one class! This class helps develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children’s lives by making fitness fun. This class is open to all ages of Tri-Valley YMCA members. Parents/guardians are required to attend the class with their children.

Family Yoga- Sundays 11:00am- Beginning March 1st

Families are able to come enjoy all the benefits of Yoga together in one class! Family yoga is a time to share, learn and explore while practicing yoga together. Yoga comes to life in this fun and creative class aimed to stimulate, relax, and connect. In this class we will focus on connecting with ourselves and our family members in body, mind, and spirit. This class is open to children ages 5+ who are Tri-Valley YMCA members. Parents/guardians are required to attend the class with their children.

Bible Study- Wednesdays, 12:00pm-12:45pm Beginning March 25th

Join us for an open Bible Study that all are welcome to attend. The study will be led by Pastor Randy Phillips who will lead discussion and the study of I Timothy based on the commentary and study questions of Gospel Preacher and Bible Teacher, Mark Copeland. Copeland uses simplicity to share the gospel and the questions seem to evoke response in a real life scenario.

Rentals and Splash Parties

Any family, group or organization may rent the pool, Party Room or Gymnasium for a private party.  Available Saturday or Sunday afternoons.  Pricing available for Members and Non-Members.  Contact a Member Services Representative for more information, available dates or to schedule a party.  Parties exclude the months of July and August.

Children's Film Program & Acting

This exciting and educational hands-on film making course introduces your child to all the major tasks involved in getting a film produced. The Program will include 28 weeks of on-camera acting, screen writing and producing. Students will collaborate on out their own professional screen play that will allow each "crew" member to experience their contribution in varying production roles. At the end of their film making journey they will experience a "Red Carpet" moment by having their very own film premier with family and friends to enjoy.

After twenty two years working in Hollywood, as both an Actress and Production Manager at three major studios, Instructor Chase Clifford has returned to the area to teach this fully professional project.
Film Class will begin January 3 on Saturdays 12:00- 2:00pm
